Transferz: Driving Ground Transportation Forward with Smart Tech and Fair Prices

Transferz was founded by Jan van der Veen, Johan van Vulpen, and Simen Schimmel in 2020. After successfully leading Taxi2Airport.com (T2A) through a suspension of payment process, the founders established Transferz and acquired T2A with a clean sheet of debtors. 

However, they didn't want to just stick to the same old routine of B2C ecommerce. Instead, they saw a golden opportunity to leverage the extensive global network of T2A with cutting-edge tech to enable travel brands to seamlessly offer ground transportation.

With a fresh start and no lingering debts, Transferz aims to become the category leader in the vast market of pre-booked ground transportation by making journeys smoother, simpler, and more enjoyable. We spoke to the founders about their company’s bold plans for the future.

Can you share any key challenges Transferz has faced on its journey to date?

Our main challenges are the unsustainable dynamics in the ground transportation industry: a race to the bottom in price, low tech investments, and volatile quality levels. Transferz is committed to countering these issues by promoting responsible pricing, fair payment terms for local drivers, and investing in technology to enhance service quality.

Our mission is to bring stability and peace of mind across the entire value chain, advocating for a sustainable future for all industry participants.

How do you differentiate Transferz from your competitors?

Transferz has established a global network of carefully selected transfer companies with whom we have direct contracts—no middlemen, no aggregators. We develop technology to control and maintain the high-quality standards we aim to deliver to travellers and travel brands. Our unique network covers approximately 1,000 locations across 134 countries, and our tech stack is continuously improving every day making the experience flawless.

What targets are you setting for the coming years?

Transferz aims to become the preferred solution provider for pre-booked ground transportation in the travel industry, bringing peace of mind to our four key stakeholders: travellers, travel brands, transportation companies, and taxi drivers. Transferz is on its way to fulfil 25,000 journeys on a daily basis.

What motivated you to join the Rise programme?

We joined Techleap for Scaleups’ Rise programme to leverage its network, personalised support, and resources to accelerate the growth of Transferz. The opportunity to engage in sessions with companies from various industries facing similar challenges intrigued us. 

Besides, we believed that our experience would allow us not only to gain insights but also share our own experiences and contribute to solving their challenges. Also, we saw the value of connecting with industry leaders and gaining expert insights that Rise provides.
